[November 2025] My Elite Footwear Rotation: Four Essential Pairs

——A monochrome philosophy for a life that moves beyond borders

Whether I’m in transit or simply living my everyday life, my rule for choosing shoes is simple: they must be replaceable anywhere. Since I plan to relocate overseas again, I choose brands with a presence in most developed countries—and when I find a model I love, I never hesitate to repurchase it.

There’s another principle I swear by: always black. Ever since I read somewhere that “black shoes elongate the legs by blending into black bottoms,” I’ve stayed loyal to this idea.
It truly sharpens the overall silhouette—and somehow, my posture and mood follow suit.

I usually wear size 25–25.5 cm, which is slightly large for a Japanese woman, so I often reach for men’s sizes without hesitation. My top priorities remain the same: comfort and functionality.

1. Pumps (PUMA Yonge Flat)

Black pumps have quietly become a permanent resident in my wardrobe. I used to pick up random pairs from apparel brands and wear them out, but standing for hours in them often proved exhausting.

So, at my last replacement, I switched to a sports brand—and it was the best decision ever.
Their minimalist design works with any outfit, and the cushioned sole offers unexpected comfort.

I’m not sure if this exact model is available worldwide, but for now, in Japan, this pair does it all.

2. Sneakers (Nike Revolution Easy On)

My previous pair, the all-black New Balance RCVRY, was worn literally to the point of holes. After it was redesigned, I reluctantly let it go and started searching for a slip-on type to avoid loose laces. That’s how I met this one.

It’s been years since I last wore Nike, but it still delivers. Light, cushioned, and reliable—even good enough for mild hikes. Since walking long distances is part of my everyday rhythm, sneakers have become a consumable for me.

3. Short Rain Boots (No Brand)

These side-gore short rain boots were an online find. Even without a brand name, styles like this can be found almost anywhere if the size fits.

They’re easy to walk in, roomy enough for thick socks, and—best of all—completely washable. When they eventually wear out, I’ll replace them with the same model without a second thought.

4. Long Rain Boots (No Brand)

Built for serious snow country. They don’t see much daily use, but they’re indispensable for my current lifestyle.

With their sleek design, they double as fashion boots on cold days. They’re a seasonal guest—retiring after winter’s end. Depending on my next move abroad, I may leave them back home, but their elegant silhouette will always have my heart.

That’s my current footwear lineup. When I update it, I’ll document the evolution here again. Until then—may your own walking life be effortless and full of rhythm.
